Central Project: Hip Roof Rebuilt in CertainTeed Landmark AR

Rated 5 out of 5

Chase and his crew did an excellent job in replacing the damaged roof on our camp. Nothing but a new roof and vents when they left. Everything was picked up and hauled off.

A Full Re-Roof on a Central Hip Roof Home

This brick and siding home in Central has a hip roof and a long screened porch across the back. Roof Rescue documented the house and the old roof in early August, then replaced the full roof system in September with CertainTeed Landmark AR architectural shingles.

What went on the roof

  • Old roof removed down to the deck, so the crew worked on bare wood before any new material went on.
  • Synthetic roofing underlayment over the full deck, with TriBUILT rolls staged on site.
  • New metal drip edge at the eaves, measured and fastened before the shingles went down.
  • CertainTeed Landmark AR architectural shingles, with CertainTeed Shadow Ridge hip and ridge in Cobblestone Gray capping every hip.
  • Ridge vent along the peaks, plus slant-back roof vents, a gooseneck vent and new pipe flashings, per the material notes on the job.

Documented before the work started

In early August a Roof Rescue walk-around photographed every side of the house: the elevations, the screened porch, the garage and the old dark shingles above them. That record shows what the roof looked like before anything was touched, and it gives the homeowner a clear before picture to compare against the finished work.

Back to bare wood

By the first photos on installation day, the old roof was off, and the deck was open over the porch, the garage and the main house. A bare deck is the one point in a replacement where the crew can see the sheathing itself and check it before it gets covered again.

Dried in, then shingled

By mid-morning the driveway held pallets of Landmark AR shingles, Shadow Ridge cap, starter shingles and rolls of synthetic underlayment. By early afternoon the roof was dried in under synthetic underlayment and the crew had set new drip edge along the eaves, with the starter course going on behind it.

The finished roof

The evening photos show the completed shingle field, the capped hips and the flashed pipe penetrations. Landmark is a dimensional shingle, so the finished roof has shadow lines and depth instead of a flat sheet of color, and the Shadow Ridge cap gives every hip a clean, finished line.
