Completed CertainTeed Patriot roof on the Ethel, Louisiana home

Full Tear-Off and New Decking on an Ethel Home

This ranch home in Ethel was still wearing its original roof, and the shingles had weathered well past the point where another repair made sense. Roof Rescue stripped it to the deck, put down new sheathing where it was needed, and finished the whole roof in a single install day.

What went on the roof

  • Full tear-off of the old shingles and underlayment, down to the deck.
  • New roof decking fastened down across the areas that needed it before anything else went on.
  • Synthetic roofing underlayment over the full deck, which lies flatter and holds up better than felt while the roof is open.
  • CertainTeed Patriot architectural shingles, finished with Shadow Ridge hip and ridge along the peaks.
  • New pipe boots and roof vents set and flashed as the field went on, rather than reused.

How the site was handled

The dump trailer sat at the driveway so the old roof went straight from the tear-off into the trailer instead of piling up in the yard. Tarps covered the porch, the walkway and the planting beds along the front of the house for the whole install, and the crew cleared the ground before leaving.

Why it came together in one day

A straightforward hip roof with good access on all sides lets a full crew work the whole plane at once. Tear-off, decking, underlayment and shingles all happened between morning and late afternoon, so the home was never left open overnight.
