Slaughter Project: Tree Damage, Board Decking Repair and a New Roof

Rated 5 out of 5

Mario and the team at Roof Rescue were great to work with. I read their ad and discovered it was a bunch of Firefighters making up the group. I expected honesty and integrity to get a fair inspection for repairs if needed and not an up sale for an entire roof replacement. Mario delivered on all accounts. Thanks again for helping complete the required repairs and for excellent service and fair pricing.

Tree Damage and a New Roof on a Slaughter Home

A large tree came down across this Slaughter home in March 2025, and its limbs landed on the roof. Roof Rescue photographed the damage from the ground and from the roof, then came back in May to tear the roof down to the deck, repair the damaged decking, and put a new roof on in a single install day.

What went on the roof

  • Full tear-off of the old shingles and underlayment, down to the original board decking.
  • Decking repair, with damaged boards cut out and new boards fitted into the openings.
  • A framing repair to a damaged roof framing component, which was part of the job’s scope.
  • Synthetic roofing underlayment across the deck, with ice and water shield called for in the valleys.
  • New architectural shingles, with the hips and ridge capped.
  • New drip edge, pipe jacks and roof ventilation components, as set out in the scope.

Documenting the damage first

The first photos show the tree still lying across the house, with branches spread over the shingles and around the plumbing vents. Once the tree was off the roof, a second visit on the roof itself recorded each point of impact: shingles torn open, holes punched through the decking into the attic, scuffed and scraped shingles, and a section of ridge vent crushed flat where a limb came down on the hip. Blue tarps were staged on the roof during that visit.

Down to the original board decking

With the old shingles off, the deck underneath is original board decking rather than plywood sheets. Board decking can last a long time, but the damaged sections could not hold fasteners for a new roof. The crew cut those sections out with a circular saw and fitted new boards into the openings, so the new shingles are fastened into solid wood across the whole roof.

One install day

The tear-off, decking repair, underlayment and shingles all happened on May 16, 2025. The first photos that day were taken in the early morning and the finished roof was photographed that evening, so the home was not left open overnight.
