Finished architectural shingle roof with vented ridge cap and hips on a Greenwell Springs, LA home by Roof Rescue

From a Tarped Ridge to a New Roof on a Greenwell Springs Home

When Roof Rescue first looked at this Greenwell Springs home in January 2025, a blue tarp was covering a damaged section near the ridge, and the rest of the shingle field showed its age in streaks and stains around the vent stacks. In May the crew stripped it to the deck and finished a new roof in a single install day.

What went on the roof

  • Full tear-off of the old shingles and underlayment, down to the deck.
  • A deck check with the roof open, since the scope called for replacing any sheathing that was not sound before anything new went on.
  • TriBuilt synthetic roofing underlayment across the full deck.
  • Ice and water shield in the valleys, as the scope called for.
  • Architectural shingles with matching hip and ridge cap.
  • A ridge vent along the peak, plus new slant-back vents and pipe jacks.

Why the old roof had to come off

A tarp buys time. It does not fix anything underneath it, and the shingles around it were weathered enough that patching one section would have left an old roof wrapped around a new spot. Taking the whole roof to bare wood let the crew see the deck, fix anything that needed it while the roof was open, and give the new shingles a solid surface to fasten into.

Dried in with synthetic underlayment

With the deck exposed, the crew rolled TriBuilt synthetic underlayment across every plane, right up to the ridge. Synthetic lies flatter than felt and holds up better to foot traffic while the roof is open. The valleys, where water concentrates on any roof, were worked before the shingles went down.

New shingles and a vented ridge

The finished roof is a dimensional architectural shingle, capped along the hips and ridge. A ridge vent runs along the peak so hot attic air has a way out, which matters in a Louisiana summer for the shingles and for the rooms underneath them.

Finished up to the metal section

The back of the house has a low-slope section covered in metal panels. It shows in the tear-off photos and again in the finished shots, and the new shingle planes were carried right up to it.

One install day

The tear-off was underway early that morning, the deck was dried in by late morning, and the finished roof was photographed the same evening.
