New dark 29-gauge metal roof with a flashed stainless flue pipe on a Central, LA brick home

From Shingles to Metal on a Central Brick Home

This single-story brick home in Central, in East Baton Rouge Parish, had an older dark shingle roof when Roof Rescue first photographed it in March 2026. The new roof is metal. The installation was scheduled for mid-May, and the finished roof was photographed a few days later.

What went on the roof

The scope came from the job estimate, and the finished photos show it in place.

  • A deck check for rot, water damage and soft spots, with any damaged decking called out for replacement before the metal went on.
  • Lats screwed into the decking to give the panels a solid base to fasten into.
  • 29-gauge stormproof metal panels across every roof plane, roughly 30 squares of material.
  • A dark painted finish on the panels instead of bare metal.
  • Flashing at the roof penetrations, including the stainless flue pipe and the plumbing vents.

The roof before

The March photos show a dark shingle roof with turbine vents, box vents and pipe vents spread along the ridge line. A green stain ran along much of the fascia, and pine straw had collected on the shingles under the tall pines behind the house.

Why metal on a house like this

A metal roof has no granules to wear off and no shingle tabs to lift. Its long panels run from the ridge to the eave, so rain and pine straw have a straight path off the roof.

Ribbed panels with a dark finish

The finished roof is a ribbed, exposed-fastener panel, with rows of screws running across the flats between the ribs. The dark painted finish sits well against the cream brick and brown shutters, and it keeps the house close to the color it had before.

Flue and vents flashed into the metal

On the back of the house, the stainless flue pipe now rises through a flat metal flashing plate set into the panels. On the front slope, the plumbing vents come up through the new metal with their own flashings.

Photographed in March, installed in May

Roof Rescue photographed the house on March 11, 2026. The job schedule ran the installation from May 12 to May 14, 2026, and the finished roof was photographed on May 16.
